Review: Audio Technica 2020 USB
Posted: October 28th, 2011 by: Ronald Griffin
The Audio Technica AT2020 USB Microphone targets an audience where recording studio quality audio anywhere, anytime is essential. The AT2020 Microphone is a fully fledged Cardioid Condenser Microphone weighing in at only 374 grams. Over the past week, I have been testing the microphone and running it through its paces, and I must say it is an amazing little microphone.
In the box you get the AT2020, a small tripod desk stand, along with its pivoting stand mount, and of course a USB cable along with a nice storage pouch for when you’re not using it. In all cases where I’ve tested this excellent microphone it has outperformed my expectations. Being a video producer, frequently vod-casting and recording tutorials is something I love doing. The AT2020 USB microphone makes it a joy for me to do what I love, and delivers in all areas for only a price of £120, or $99.
After receiving it, all you have to do is literally plug it into your PC or Mac, make sure the device is selected and the levels have been set, and you’re ready to record. This truly is a very simple Plug and Play microphone that doesn’t require any knowledge short from fiddling with a USB cable. Along with the Microphone, I’d highly recommend a good shock mount and pop filter to go with it. These are really inexpensive editions to your Microphone that enhance the overall quality by a mile.
So, what does it sound like? The audio this microphone captures is nothing short of outstanding. You won’t get any better sounding vocals in this price range, and this microphone can easily go against expensive microphones out there.
Ultimately, if you’re looking to capture amazing audio and you’re new to recording or just want a great microphone paired with a great price, look no further. I’d recommend this to anyone, simply to enhance the quality of their videos, with great vocals. You can find some audio samples of the AT2020 USB Microphone along with the AT8458 Shock mount and a pop filter, at the bottom of this review.
